“How Can I Keep Negative Words From Hurting Or Controlling Me?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

sticks and stones 2

How Can I Keep Negative Words From Hurting Or Controlling Me?

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me,” was a children’s rhyme I used to sing in my early youth. Little did I know back then how harsh negative criticism and hurtful words could do more damage than objects thrown at me ever could.

In Proverbs 15:4 God reveals that “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

Destructive voices fill our entire world and in time you are bound to meet all sorts of people that will say things that will cause you pain, for nothing brings hurt or stirs up anger like grievous words from the lips of insensitive or foolish people. Often it’s not from strangers that will affect you most but from negative and hurtful comments from those that you love or care about.

Like an arm chair quarterback who has never picked up a football or a backseat driver who can’t control the steering wheel of an automobile, those negative voices are always on the prowl in an attempt to instruct, correct, or slander you without knowing what it’s like to ever walk in your shoes.

So why do you care about what others say to the place that you allow it to ruin your day and hold you back from doing the things you really want to do?

Their taunting hurts because you keep replaying their comments in your head, over and over again, and are allowing it to become forged in your spirit.  But stop and learn how you can prevent their hurtful words from having the impact within you by you starting to do things differently.  By trusting Christ and walking in fellowship with God’s Holy Spirit, you now have the authority to prevent from taking control or cast down and even destroy the works of the devil in your life.

While I cannot keep foolish people from making negative or criticizing comments, with God’s help and strength, I can control my own attitude in how I will react or how I will be affected by what has been foolishly said.

Aren’t you aware that you have been given the power to replace bad thoughts with faith-filled, positive, loving and optimistic thoughts?  Surround yourself with people whose lives are full of faith and have a heart for God.  Don’t try to argue back with a fool. Clear up the negativity inside of you and realize how much God really loves you.

Become inspired by listening to some anointed gospel music and be encouraged through some anointed and life changing gospel preaching.

Learn God’s view point by studying His Holy Scriptures.   Learn to respond productively and remain poised and in control whenever you’re confronted with rebellious acting or screwed up people.

Take back that power and fully commit yourself to The Holy Spirit of God. Remember, no one can control you unless you allow their control to reign in your life.  Stop being the victim and learn to demonstrate God’s love through your life, in spite of them.

Are you aware that God had your best interest in view when He sent Jesus to the cross?   So, confess out loudly that you’ve been redeemed by His blood, forgiven of your sins, filled with His Spirit and are now walking in His Word. And that God’s view point is the only one that matters and that He is the only one you’re concerned about pleasing.

“Are You Maintaining God’s Course Of Action Or Just Trying To Survive The Season?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

Are You Maintaining God’s Course Of Action Or Just Trying To Survive The Season?

Problems don’t change who you are, they reveal what you are. So regardless if you find yourself in the severe winter storm or blistering summer heat of life, you must adopt the mentality of an athlete and continue to persevere on your journey.

Hebrews 12:1 NIV says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

While observing the ancient Grecian games, which exercises or events consisted of running, wrestling, hand to hand combat and fighting, The Apostle Paul presented the allusion of the athletes in these games to believers on their Christian Journey.

In view of these events, the athletes had to take an oath that they had been in ten months of disciplined training and wouldn’t violate any of the regulations. Then they lived enduring rigorous exercise while experiencing painful exertion through cold and heat. Then they followed a strict diet of refraining from wine and certain foods, and lived a life of self-denial, so that nothing could be left undone and prevent the winning of the crown.

Then once the events began, great multitude of spectators usually occupied the circular seats in the amphitheater, from which they could easily observe all of the athletic events and cheer on their champions. In like manner, he revealed that the “stadium or our race” is our world and that we should be encouraged by the example of the multitudes who have run the same race before us, and who are possibly now looking down upon us from heaven, observing our conduct and seeing our conflicts, are cheering us on to victory.

But then The Apostle places the Christian race in contrast to the games; in that only one can only receive the prize, though all participated. But in the Christian race, all that run will receive the prize. So we are to run with purpose, not aimlessly, with such perseverance in the heavenly course to please God and get to heaven just like others do to obtain their earthly prize.

Now in order to diligently run, you are further instructed to put aside any type of weight or encumbrances that would slow you down or keep you from finishing or winning the race. There’s always the present danger of yielding to fleshly desires, pampering the body, fulfilling its lusts or satisfying its appetites, dangers of pride, vanity, worldliness, or in having an ungovernable temper, a corrupt imagination, an insensible heart, or an unholy relationship. Or whatever else it could be, we are advised and encouraged to lay it aside or cast it down.

So you are to remove anything which can obstruct your progress and keep these dangers from impeding, overburdening, preventing, controlling or weighting you down so that you may win the divine prize.

“There’s A Man In Glory, But Have You Lost Sight Of Him”?

There’s A Man In Glory, But Have You Lost Sight Of Him”?

In Acts 17:32 the Word of God says, When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.”

The Apostle Paul, in his sermon on Mars’ Hill in Athens, hadn’t finished his message when upon hearing about the resurrection, the assembly instantly broke up.  The doctrine of the resurrection from the dead was not believed by the Greeks because it seemed too incredible and absurd to their minds.  Others mocked it’s preaching even with sneers, despising his words

The Lord Jesus Christ having arisen after being put to death and buried was a clear demonstration of the miraculous love, faithfulness, power, grace, truth and authority of God over all things that exist or were created.

Jesus died for your sins, he rose again for your justification, gives eternal life to those that believe in Him.  And through His Word and Holy Spirit, though invisible, He’s mightily at work in and throughout our constant affairs.

While many church-goers today don’t verbally deny the resurrection, their lives don’t exemplify a solid, healthy or living relationship with The Risen Savior.

Some live as though they’ve wandered away from the faith or are out of His view.  Others believe and are teaching things that are false and only follow certain principles for material or personal gain.

Many seminaries, motion pictures about Christ, church pastors and TV evangelists no longer even emphasize His Resurrection or its importance.

While the crucifixion of Jesus is the world’s most historic event, you must realize that the resurrection of Christ from the dead is the world’s most encouraging and thrilling event that has ever happened in the history of all mankind.

Because He Lives, We Also Shall Live Again….

Do You Believe This And Are You Looking Forward To His Coming?

How Bad Do You Really Want It?

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

prayer that prevails

How Bad Do You Really Want It?”

How Great Is Your Desire To See God Move In Your Life?  The miraculous works of God are always the result of a deep, inner and insatiable desire for a change.  God isn’t moved to orchestrate in our hearts or affairs because a person quickly mumbles some “off the cuff” prayer without any thought behind it.

No, God is always moved to intervene from those who diligently, passionately, intimately and faithfully seek Him.  And this kind of prayer usually involves both sacrificial time and hard work as one seeks to pierce through their darkness, prevail through their pains and persevere right into the throne room of God’s grace.

We are given an excellent example of this in 1st Samuel 1: 9-18 in the brief story of Hannah.  Hannah was childless and couldn’t take being barren anymore, so she pleaded and poured out her soul before God.

Here In verse 11, Hannah’s prayers being mingled with tears cries out, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

Her vow here implies that he would be consecrated to the Lord from his infancy to his death, to serve him, and minister unto him in the sanctuary, fully dedicating him to the tabernacle service;  and that he should not only act as a Levite, but as a Nazarite, on whose head no razor should ever pass.

Being unwilling to let the Lord go until she received some sort of promise or satisfaction, she continued praying in her heart.  There, her distorted appearance with uplifted eyes and hands were observed by the priest, who not hearing any words but seeing her lips move, initially though she was intoxicated from wine.

Then in verses 15-16 it says,Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD.  Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

Out of the abundance of her heart, Hannah began to vent and make known her desires to The Lord.  And the Lord remembered Hannah and gave her the power to conceive and she brought forth a son and called his name Samuel.

Let us be reminded of the promise given in Matthew 6:6 by Jesus himself,But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Is there some place where you can go and have your secret devotions?  A place where you may be alone with God?  If you really need to speak with God then you will create the place and the time needed to really get before the Lord like Hannah.

There’s a reward, power and anointing that comes out of prevailing and persistent prayer that cannot be derived from anywhere else.

Remember the words from James 4:3 which declare that “You have not because you ask not or ask amiss.” When you ask, don’t ask with the wrong motives of self-indulgence or carnal gratification, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.  On some occasions you even if you do pray, you do it only that you may live in splendor to pamper your lusts.   No, always come before His presence with the right intentions and purpose of heart.

Remember, whatever’s ahead of you is never as great as the power that’s with you.  And according to His gracious promises, He will move in your life and affairs, through the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Daily Devotional – “Why Does It Seem As If I’m Always Under Attack?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

overcoming 3

Why Does It Seem As If I’m Always Under Attack?”

Is worry, fear and anxiety consuming your peace of mind and quality of life?  Is your attitude, or ability to make decisions or your confidence deteriorating?  Is anger, frustration, guilt or any other negative emotion squandering your time away?   Is stress shattering your purpose in life and leaving you feeling weak and powerless?

Then it’s time for you to “change the channel of your mind” because the devil doesn’t want you to be encouraged, delivered, healed or blessed.   If he can keep you feeling emotionally drained, stressed out, miserable, mad and weak, then you’ll remain ineffective, frustrated, prayer-less, helpless, hopeless, defeated and even angry at God.

By showing you a mental picture of you and your circumstances at their worst, Satan’s trying to rob you of your future by stealing your away hope today.  He wants you to see a different image of yourself other than how God see you.

With that though in mind, The Apostle John declared in 1 John 5:5, Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Real Christians overcome the world by faith.  They rise up, look beyond it and still press onward towards heaven.  For we know that either we must overcome the world or it will overcome us.

So, as a believer in Jesus Christ, God wants you to realize that you are His highest and best creation.  Are you aware that you are the only part of creation that He took on the image and likeness of and then even died for to redeem?

One of the most important lessons that The Lord wants you to consider, understand and remember is “Why should you allow the devil to succeed in discouraging your mind about your future, when the Bible has already predicted his?

The only situation that is truly hopeless is his!  He’s the defeated one, who unchangeable destiny is to be cast into The Lake of Fire  So today he has only one agenda or goal which is to disturb your mind in order to separate you from faith in Jesus Christ and then move you towards destruction.

That’s why you and those you love “are under attack.”  But the good news is that the devil is “no match” for a worshiper.  And praising The Lord, standing on His Word, trusting The Holy Spirit and obeying God are “your ways of fighting back and piercing through the darkness.”

If your dream, welfare and life are worth fighting for, then re-acquaint yourself with The Word of God and The Lord, then fire back at him with praise as you stand in faith on the promises of God through Jesus Christ.

It’s there that you’ll find salvation, strength, deliverance, peace and victory.  So, instead of breaking down:  BREAKTHROUGH & BREAKOUT!   Pierce through the darkness, penetrate over obstacles and be freed from those things that once held you in bondage.

Listen to The Holy Spirit instead of the voices of hopelessness and discouragement as you face all the hurdles in your life.  God has promised some very wonderful rewards or blessings for the “overcomers.”   But how can you ever be an overcomer unless you first have something to overcome?

Remember that CHRIST IS the cure, the remedy and the answer for you.  All things are possible through Him.  So, recapture your vision, recover your dream and start all over again.   Switch off discouragement and replace it with hope.  Replace confusion with faith in God.

Remember, whenever you feel that you’re at your lowest point, start rejoicing for “You’re Still On Top Of The Devil.”
