Daily Devotional – “Bitter or Better – Which Road Have You Chosen?”

“Bitter or Better – Which Road Have You Chosen?”

Many years ago there was a famous TV show which featured a man named “Archie Bunker,” whose life simply oozed bitterness, ignorance and foolishness.

Upon watching it, one might start to wonder where we would be if the misbehaving people would start using their destructive energies to do things good to enhance and better our world.

Now, while I know that we don’t live in a “dream world,” there is a lot of potential for greater things to occur if more walked in the light of Christ instead of living in darkness.

But there’s a greater issue at stake here because there are countless people who claim that they’ve been delivered out of darkness through Jesus Christ but they’re still allowing the spirit of darkness to control their thinking and actions towards others.  And one of the ways is in the area of bitterness.

The Holy Spirit of God reveals in Proverbs 16:32 that,He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.”

People led by God’s Spirit are bridge builders and not destroyers of life.  They are lifters of heads and not the breakers of backs.   So, which one are you?

Now, there’s more to distinguishing these two words than just one vowel being different in them.  And The Holy Spirit of God wants you to realize that your road cannot or will not get better if you remain bitter in your heart before God.

Do you know that a person whose heart is right before God using wisdom can accomplish more than he ever could by just using physical force or brute strength?

Did you know that a wise man’s words uttered calmly are of more value than the one who seeks to force his ways upon others through loudness and unwise instruction?

Ecclesiastes 9: 17-18 NTL says, Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king. Better to have wisdom than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.”

Now some of the main characteristics or traits of a person filled with bitterness are:  anger, hostility, hatefulness, antagonism, bearing grudges, resentment, miserable, wickedness, negativity, scornfulness, full of stinging criticism, sour in life, harshness, unforgiving, disagreeable and destructive.

Not only can a bitter person bring destruction upon his own soul but their corruption, bad example, mischief and foolish counsel can have devastating effects upon a family, neighborhood, nation and even a church.

Now, the word better is used 218 times throughout scripture and some of the main characteristics or traits of the word better are:  a morally superior quality, virtuousness, a spirit of excellence, improved in wisdom, joyfulness and having a more appropriate or acceptable way or manner.  These individuals seek to amend, advance, promote, correct, reform and rectify circumstances, situations and relationships.

The Holy Spirit of God instructs us in Hebrews 12: 14-15 NIV to,Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.  See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”

So, if you want to walk in the favor of God, make sure you choose the right road and allow the peace and grace of The Lord to rule and reign in your life.

Daily Devotional – “How Great Is Your Desire To See God Move In Your Life?”

Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

prayer warrors 3

How Great Is Your Desire To See God Move In Your Life?”

The miraculous works of God are always the result of a deep, inner and insatiable desire for a change.  God isn’t moved or compelled to orchestrate in our hearts or affairs because a person quickly mumbles some “off the cuff” prayer without any thought behind it.

No, God is always moved to intervene for those who diligently, passionately, intimately and faithfully seek Him.  And this kind of prayer usually involves both sacrificial time and hard work, as one seeks to pierce through their darkness, prevail through their pains, and persevere right into the throne room of God’s grace.

We are given an excellent example of this in 1st Samuel 1: 9-18 in the brief story of Hannah.  Hannah was childless and grieved; she couldn’t tolerate being barren any longer, so she pleaded and poured out her soul before God.

Here In verse 11, Hannah’s prayers were cried out as they were mingled with her tears, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant, but give her a son. Then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

Her vow here implies that he would be consecrated to the Lord from his infancy to his death, to serve him, and minister unto him in the sanctuary, fully dedicating him to the tabernacle service;  and that he should not only act as a Levite, but as a Nazarite, on whose head no razor should ever pass.

Being unwilling to let the Lord go until she received some sort of promise or satisfaction, she continued praying in her heart.  In the temple as she prayed, her distorted appearance and uplifted eyes and hands were observed by the priest, who not hearing any words but seeing her lips move, initially though she was intoxicated from wine.

Then in verses 15-16 Hannah answers,Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD.  Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

Out of the abundance of her heart, Hannah began to vent and make known her desires to The Lord.  And the Lord remembered Hannah and gave her the power to conceive and she brought forth a son and called his name Samuel.

Let us be reminded of the promise given in Matthew 6:6 by Jesus himself,But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Is there some place where you can go and have your secret devotions?  Is there a place where you may be alone with God to pour out your heart?  If you really want answers and need God to hear your petitions, you will create the place and the time needed to really get before the Lord, like Hannah, to pour out your heart and listen for his response in your spirit. You will give the Lord your time and make him a priority.

There’s a reward, power and anointing that comes out of prevailing and persistent prayer that cannot be derived from anywhere else.

Remember the words from James 4:3 which declare that “You have not because you ask not or ask amiss.” When you ask, don’t ask with the wrong motives of self-indulgence or carnal gratification, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.  On some occasions even if you do pray, you do it only that you may live in splendor to pamper your lusts.   No, always come before His presence with the right intentions and purpose of heart.

Remember, whatever is ahead of you is never as great as the power that’s with you.  And according to His gracious promises, He will move in your life and affairs, through the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

What Effect Does Your Life Have On Others Around You?”

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, an elderly grandmother to the stand.  He then approached her and asked, “Mrs. Jones, do you know me?”  She responded, “Why, yes I know you.  I’ve known you since you were a boy and frankly you’ve been a big disappointment to me.  You lie, cheat on your wife, manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.”

The lawyer was completely stunned as the room filled with laughter. Then not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, “Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney sitting over across the room over there?”

She again replied, “Yes I do. I’ve known him since he was a youngster too.  He’s lazy, bigoted and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was even your wife. Yes, I know him.”  The defense attorney nearly died with embarrassment as the court room once again totally filled with laughter.

Suddenly the judge quickly asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, “If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.”

Well, What Effect Does Your Life Have On Others Around You?  Is the life that you’re living worth the price that He paid?  Can others see Christ in your daily walk or lifestyle?  Or you walking the walk or just talking the talk?

In Matthew 5:13 NIV Jesus said to his disciples,“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Since ancient times, salt has been an important and integral part in the daily lives of many different races and cultures of people. While the history of salt is broad ranging and often unique, no one could ever deny it power or influence in our world.

Salt in the form of a tiny white grain may disappear when boiled in hot water, but its power or influence does not cease to exist.  Once you taste the water, you’ll be reminded of its presence, influence and authority.

The Lord, in making this analogy, is saying that the only hope, remedy or cure for mankind is the genuine active Christian character and godly principles of born-again spirit-filled believers in fellowship with God.  The outward living of the indwelling Holy Spirit is meant to have a definite impact and effect upon the rest of the world.

But then our Lord told his disciples that if it becomes tasteless and loses its ability to preserve, it then becomes useless, ineffective and unprofitable and should be tossed into the streets.

True Living Christianity is the only “salt of the earth,” which alone can withstand, resist and yet have power over all the corruption today.  But the salt must remain powerful in order to be influential and effective.  For what else can take its place?   So, let your light shine that others may see Christ in you and glorify God.

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Daily Devotional – “How Can I Let Go When My World Is Being Turned Upside Down?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

totally stressed

How Can I Let Go When My World Is Being Turned Upside Down?”

This was the question that I was frantically asked by a believer that was being overwhelmed by her circumstances.

The main reason that people are troubled is because of trying to figure it all out alone.  Once you stop trying to orchestrate or manipulate the outcome of things, cease from striving for your own solution, and stop blaming others for your past mistakes or failures, then you can hear God speak.   Then you can BE STILL before Him, hear from The Holy Spirit and learn to yield to God’s plan.

Now, as painful or difficult as some situations may seem, God’s now calling you to “BE STILL” and stand in faith before His Presence.

Psalms 46: 1-2 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be changed, and though the mountains slip into the midst of the sea.”

Then in Psalms 46:10 God says, “Be still and know that I AM God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

These are just two of the many different passages of scripture that should be able to give you unshakable confidence in knowing that God will always protect and provide for His children.  But the secret in learning to trust God to be your “refuge, strength and help” only comes from learning how to “be still” before The Lord.

“Well, how do you do this when I’m having a financial crisis, or have suffered the loss of a loved one, or have just experience a job layoff, or a son is arrested for drug possession or my unwed daughter runs away because she’s pregnant?   How can I be still when my husband’s having an affair, or my wife files for divorce, or my dreams have been shattered and I’m even disillusioned with God because my prayers have not been answered?”

“BEING STILL” before the Lord doesn’t mean that you become physically inactive.  It means you “becoming open to The Lord” in order to hear His Voice and be led by His Spirit.  It means you becoming more attentive and ready to obey and follow His directions and His Word.  “How can you hear from God when your mind is filled with confusion and just running wild?”  There are certain things God now wants to reveal to your heart and mind but you can’t hear or receive from Him while you’re always on the run and driven by panic and fear.

In Exodus 14:13-14, when the Israelites saw Pharaoh and his army coming to destroy them on the shores of the Red Sea, under heart-wrenching circumstances, Moses said “Fear not, STAND STILL and see the salvation of the Lord which He will show to you today.   For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more forever.  For The Lord shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace.”   And we all know the great miracle that took place on that day.

It takes courage and faith for you to surrender and become still.  But, it’s a matter of choice.  Either you’ll choose to worry and remain frustrated or you’ll choose to “Be Still” before The Lord.

The devil wants you distracted, disturbed, disillusioned and defeated.  But Christ is now calling you to get alone with Him.  You can learn to steal away from everything around you and know that your life and your welfare are now at stake.  So begin by establishing some time away from the TV and other activities and get before God in His Word.   Learn that if you seek His face, you’ll get His hand moving in your midst.

Despite having worked a full time very stressful managerial job with more than enough responsibilities and duties, I was totally refreshed and amazed after arising earlier just to spend some quality time with Christ before beginning my day.  It clearly made the difference in my life and circumstances, allowing me to receive inspiration and direction from The Lord.

Christ will reveal Himself to you as your savior, deliverer, helper, healer, provider and whatever else you need.    No matter what you’re facing or going through, God is available, willing, sufficient, all loving, all powerful, full of mercy and wonderful grace.

HE IS “your place to run to” when your world turns upside down and is filled with chaos.  HE IS “your rest and comfort” when you feel you can’t go on any further.  HE IS “your energy and strength” when you’re too exhausted to continue and fight.

BE STILL AND HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Daily Devotional – “What Should You Do When Life Gives You Lemons?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

lemons to lemonade

What Should You Do When Life Gives You Lemons?

Life is full of a variety of experiences. There are some we wish to bask in and hold in our memories, and others we would like to press the delete button and pretend they never happened.

While we can never go back and change things, we should allow those experiences to become our teacher but NOT our undertaker. If you don’t learn from those experiences and grow you’ll become angry or filled with resentment and then reap negative results from those experiences.

Now, we have a choice to make when life gives us lemons and things turn out opposite of our desires. We can blame ourselves or others and allow anger to steal our peace and do things we would later regret or say things we wish we hadn’t. Or we can step back from the situation and trust God to fix those things we’ve messed up, heal the hurts that have been caused, and grant us the strength to move onward.

In Genesis 29:23 & 25 NIV it says, “But when evening came, Laban took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob, and Jacob lay with her. And when morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?”

Jacob had made it known to Laban that he loved Rachel and had promised seven years of service for her hand in marriage.

After the marriage ceremony and much celebration, under the cover of darkness, Laban took Leah his older daughter and brought her to Jacob. As the bride was always veiled as a sign of purity, and the bedroom generally dark, Leah was brought to Jacob in the night instead of Rachel. And in the next morning, he discovered the deception and fraud.

So after much dispute and a week had passed, Laban agreed to give Jacob Rachel also: two wives in eight days and to each of these Laban additionally gave one maid-servant to wait upon them. And from all of this Laban was to get seven more years of service out of Jacob.

Through this experience, Jacob had to learn how to look to the Lord and move forward from this place.

God allows a variety of experiences to enter our lives to see how we’ll respond, increase our faith, build our character and bring us to a greater maturity. Will you trust him no matter what or will you only trust him when he gives you what we want?

Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith and He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change. When something “bad” happens, it’s in our best interest to look to Him with a confident attitude and trust Him to guide and help us to make sweet lemonade out of sour lemons.

He’s got our backs in every temptation, trial or unexpected situation. Out of His great love, power and grace, if you turn to Him, He will see you through every adverse circumstance, negative situation and painful condition that you’ll ever encounter, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Daily Devotional – “Faith Will Open Your Eyes To New Opportunities If You’re Willing To Believe God”

Faith Will Open Your Eyes To New Opportunities If You’re Willing To Believe God

So often people feel sorry for themselves because they only see their negative situation, weaknesses, inabilities, past failures or where they find themselves in life.  But, placing faith in God will change your perspective and affect your outcome.

Even when God is all that you have, FAITH will allow you to envision what others cannot or will not see.  Faith sees the possible in the impossible, finds hope in a hopeless situation and believes that there’s nothing too hard for God to do in your life.  Faith says that you are here for a purpose and that your present difficulties or challenges are nothing more than stepping-stones through which you must see new opportunities.

Faith inspires you onward with a confidence that’s rooted in the solid foundation of Christ Jesus.  Then faith stabilizes you, holding you rock steady, with the confidence that you can make it as you proceed through the storms of life.

As God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us, FAITH believes that the circumstances you’re dealing are not mistakes, but “spring board” into new doors of opportunities for growth and blessings as you stand fast on God’s word.    Such became the life of a little girl that became a great champion in the world.

“Did You Know That triumph can’t be had without the struggle” declared Wilma Rudolph, whose life was a story of a person achieving against the odds through faith in God.

The 20th of 22 children in an extremely poor black family, she was born prematurely on June 23, 1940 in Clarksville, Tennessee, weighing only 4 1/2 pounds at birth.

Because of racial segregation in the South, she was not allowed medical treatment at the local hospital.  So she spent the majority of her childhood in bed with her mother spending those several years nursing Wilma through one illness after another:  measles, mumps, scarlet fever, chicken pox, double pneumonia and then polio.

When her mother was told that Wilma had polio, a crippling disease that had no cure at that time, they were told that she would never walk.  Her mother then drove to a black medical hospital 50 miles away, twice a week, until she was able to walk with the aid of metal leg braces when she was only 6 years old.

The doctors taught Mrs. Rudolph how to do the physical therapy exercises at home, so her brothers and sisters took turns massaging her crippled legs every day.  Finally by age 12, she could walk normally, without the crutches, braces or corrective shoes.  Not only did she decide to become an athlete but she soon became a budding basketball star.

With her first accomplishments to stay alive and get well behind her, her years of treatment with a determination to be a “normal kid” finally started to pay off.

Wilma Rudolph was a sight to behold.  At 5-foot-11 and 130 pounds, she was lightning fast.  She had natural ability she couldn’t explain saying, “I don’t know why I run so fast, I just run.”

At the 1960 Rome Olympics, Rudolph became the fastest woman in the worldand the first American woman to win three gold medals in one Olympics, winning the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and the 400-meter relay team race.

Despite a poor baton pass, Wilma, the anchor on that relay team, caught up from meters behind and overtook Germany’s famous anchor runner.   The Americans, all women from Tennessee State, took the gold in 44.5 seconds after setting a world record of 44.4 seconds in the semifinals.

This achievement led her to become one of the most celebrated female athletes of all time. In addition, her celebrity caused gender barriers to be broken in previously all-male track and field events.

It was stated by her coach that “She did more for her country than what the United States could have paid her for.”  In her soft-spoken, gracious manner, she promoted her country and paved the way for more African-American athletes, both men and women, who came along later.

In 1963 she was selected to represent the U. S. State Department as a Goodwill Ambassador at the Games of Friendship in Dakar, Senegal.  Later that year she was invited by Dr. Billy Graham to join the Baptist Christian Athletes in Japan.

Before she died in Nashville, Tennessee on Nov. 12, 1994 of brain cancer, in 1973 she was voted into the Black Athletes Hall of Fame, in 1974 she was voted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame, then later NBC made a movie about her life from her autobiography simply called, Wilma.”

So, remember the wonderful words from 1st Corinthians 2:9, “That Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Daily Devotional – “How Can God Turn A Bad Situation Around?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

forgotten by God 2

How Can God Turn A Bad Situation Around?”

Left for dead by his brothers, then sold into slavery, then falsely accused of rape by his boss’s wife, imprisoned for something that he didn’t do, Joseph still never gave up on God and his dream.

Why did he refuse to succumb to his circumstances?  How was he able to keep clinging on to the promises of God throughout his various ordeals?   What kept him from becoming possessed with rage, anger and blame?

During our times of corporate down-sizing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, divorce, chemical dependency, growing criminal activity, destruction from unforeseen tragedies, and emotional mental anguish, many are asking “Why does life seem more difficult for some while others seem to escape unaffected?”

Many times throughout my earlier personal life and parade of suffering, I remembered the story of Joseph as recorded in Genesis chapters 37-50, and his piercing and inspiring words from Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, you meant evil against me.  But God meant it for good in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

As I remembered his ascent from prisoner to prime minister or his elevation from the pit to the palace, I finally came to the realization that God is NO respecter of persons.  And that The Lord would always move in the life of any individual no matter of his surrounding enemies, persecutors, painful conditions or negative situations, as that person would continually look to Christ in faith.

With relentless tenacity, Joseph chose to believe God under the most horrific circumstances and on a continual or constant basis.  Somehow we too must believe that when things seem hopeless, THERE’S ALWAYS GRACE.  And just like Joseph, I chose to believe God’s Word and stand against the odds of surrender and defeat.

Just going to church on Sundays, is not the answer.  You’re going to need a daily dosage of God’s Word, intimate time in prayer in fellowship with Him, listening to some inspiration gospel music and good bible teaching lessons, and then STAND and persevere through your wilderness conditions.

Now, as I look back, I never saw any angelic being appear to me or I never heard any special heavenly musical sound.  Many years ago, as I stood homeless and broke on the street corner, I suddenly looked up into the face of God and asked Him, “Can you still take a man from the pit to the palace just like you did Joseph?”  “If you can, then prove it to me because I’m not going to let go of your word.”

After I cried out to The Lord and expressed my situation, I then set down and wrote out my prayer or confession.  These are the words that I wrote and daily confessed that I believed:  “Heavenly Father, I come to you today in the name of Jesus Christ.  And I fully believe that I am saved, delivered from, healed, protected from and provided for by you throughout every adverse circumstance, negative situation, painful condition, satanic entrapment and demonic activity.  As I stand on your Holy Word, guide me by your Holy Spirit and I thank you for moving mightily in and through my life, in the wonderful precious name of Jesus Christ.”

Over a period of time, God miraculously took me from being homeless and unemployed into being an employee, then a supervisor of a major corporation, then the second manager in charge of another major larger company.  Through trusting God, just like Joseph, The Lord Jesus Christ took me from “the pit to the palace to the right hand of the pharaoh in charge.”  And now, God has even given me a greater calling and wonderful opportunity to preach Christ, teach His Word and encourage people all over the world to look to Jesus.

So, it doesn’t matter how old you are, what you’re going through, how many battles you feel like you’ve lost or even where you are today.  You too can change the outcome of your life if you will refuse to give up and every day keep His Word and promises before your face.  His Word must become more real that the physical hardships or dire circumstances that you see.  There’s no magic pill to swallow or no magic wand to wave.  It’s going to take you giving yourself fully over to the life-changing, invisible yet almighty, powerful, loving and compassionate hand of God.   And He Will Be the difference in your life….

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Daily Devotional – “What’s The Key For Overcoming Past Regrets?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

 key 2

What’s The Key For Overcoming Past Regrets?”

“If I had the sense back then that I have now, then things would be totally different today” is a universal expression that is uttered somewhere every day.  The world is full of people who live their lives wondering what might have been, what could have been, or what should have been had they only made different choices in their past.

Some people have lived with regrets so long that they have become sour as it has become their constant companion and part of their lives.  They’re haunted by their overwhelming past memories, bad decisions and temptation experiences which have now become a heavy weight keeping them from going forward.

Then as they gets older, they can cover their facial scars with make-up and dye their gray hairs away, but their hearts still remain affected by years of discouragement, brokenness, fear, depression and guilt.  And they begin to allow the pain to multiply even as the years continue to go by.

But The Word of God tells us that we should stay focused on what lies ahead and keep our eyes on the finish line.  Athletes are trained to not look back because it will cause them to stumble, slow down, lose their event and miss out on what’s ahead for their careers.

So, what’s the key for overcoming past regrets?  While there is no magic pill to swallow or formula to take, the answer may appear to be quite simple because it actually comes from strength beyond your own.  This strength is only derived from the power contained in The Word of God and The Grace of God.

Hebrews 12: 1-2 NLT says,Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.  We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

You must seek the face of Jesus Christ and be filled with His Holy Spirit.  Learning to place Him first in every decision or choice you make will have dramatic changes in your life and circumstances as you yield yourself to The Word of God.

In doing so, you’re making the clear decision to arise, run your race with His help, to cast down weights that lead to sinful activities, to win the crown of glory and not to have everlasting misery in your life.

You know the areas that you have been the most vulnerable, prone or exposed either from habits, temptations or circumstances.  Your ability to subdue, conquer and keep these areas defeated only lies in the strength of The Holy Spirit and your determination to walk in victory as you focus on Christ.  Or sin and Satan will hinder and defeat you from winning in your race.

Constantly studying the scriptures and looking to Jesus will give you the endurance and strength from being overcome by the devil, the world and fleshly carnal desires and future agonies.  But, it’s a daily, consistent, and constant walk in His fellowship.

Jesus Christ is The Leader of the Whole Army of Faith.  Do you want to follow Him and His Standard?

Daily Devotional – “Will My Plans Fail If I Don’t Spend Time In Prayer?”

Today’s Daily Devotional from Pastor Andrew Bills

 stress 9

Will My Plans Fail If I Don’t Spend Time In Prayer?

Do you realize that failure to pray simply reveals that you are willing or content to except all conditions and things the way they currently are?  It also declares that you believe you are fully capable to handle everything you’re facing or dealing with on your own.

Now, I know that you wouldn’t consciously make a decision like that but that’s exactly what’s happening when you don’t spend quality time in God’s presence and express your heart before Him.  And perhaps that’s why you’re at the place where you are right now.

While prayer is a definite indicator of one’s intimate relationship with and dependence on our Lord, God is not dependent on your prayers to do some things here on Earth.  But if you really want to experience God’s influence, power and effectiveness, prayer is just too important to neglect because it’s been established by God for your welfare and benefit.

There are too many opportunities, blessings and victories that God doesn’t want you to miss out on, so it’s through prayer and obedience to His Word that He desires for you to enter into His presence, do His Will and experience His Love, Mercy and Awesome Grace.  No wonder the devil tries so hard to keep you from spending time with God and then make you see things as difficult, impossible or just not for you.

In James 4:2 God says, “…you have not because you ask not.”   Then Jesus declared in John 15:7, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.”

These scripture indicate that there are certain things that we cannot obtain or accomplish until we seek His face, pray for, and then believe Him to do. Because He is our Loving Heavenly Father, not only does He hear our requests, but according to The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:20 God is “more than able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

Throughout the Bible, there are many different examples or types of prayers where individuals sought the face of God for His divine intervention and blessings that were written for our encouragement today.  There are prayers for deliverance in times of great crisis, prayers for physical healing, prayers for wisdom and divine guidance, prayers for miraculous doors to open, prayers for God’s favor and grace, prayers for boldness, prayers for provision and resources or needs to be met, and prayers of intercession for love ones.

Just like in these Biblical examples, your prayers will also make the difference and will have a tremendous impact in your faith, life, and in your surrounding affairs. What an awesome privilege it is to be in constant intimate contact and fellowship with our Creator, Redeemer and Almighty Lord.

breaking through 2

“Did You Know That God Is Your Only Way Through Your Situation?”

Are you dependent upon God for your breakthrough and victory?  The Cross and The Resurrection of Christ is our assurance that God has given us the victory over all of our enemies in every conflict that we face, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Today, many people are now facing some of the most horrific situations that they’ve ever encountered in their lives.   Lives are being destroyed by drug addiction or chemical dependency.  Abusiveness is crushing homes and crippling lives, and time won’t permit me here to list all of the other demonic activities or satanic entrapments that are wreaking havoc throughout our cities today.

As the powers of darkness are opposing you, wishful thinking or mere hoping will not resolve your dilemma or cure your situation.  And trying to handle matters on your very own really hasn’t worked for you either.  Only the power and authority of God’s Word, through faith in Jesus Christ will.

One has only to pick up the Bible and start reading from the beginning to discover God’s Eternal Existence, His Supremacy, His Authority and His Power.

Well, Don’t You Know That You Completely Surprise The Devil When You Rise Up In His Face In Faith, In The Name Of Jesus Christ, And Stand On God’s Word?  The powers of darkness never really expect you to do that.  Satan though you were defeated!  NO!!!  More so, he thought you even thought that you were defeated and finished.

We too must learn what David discovered, that God Almighty is The Lord Of The Breakthrough.”

In 2nd Samuel chapter 5, once again we read of the enemy forces attacking David and the nation of Israel.  But, we also read about God’s supernatural divine intervention in their midst.

2nd Samuel 5:20 NLT says, “So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “The LORD did it!” David exclaimed. “He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).

As a soldier who placed his confidence in God, David asked for a plan of attack from God, who was his real commander-in-chief.  God so mightily moved, David declared it was like water bursting through an opposing dam which quickly brought destruction to everything that was in its way.

By acting in perfect obedience, David succeeded where King Saul had failed and totally defeated the Philistines.  Obedience to God’s instructions or Word was David’s key to experiencing the miraculous intervention of God.

Obedience is also THE KEY TO YOUR BREAKTHROUGH.  You must make a conscious decision to spend time with God in daily fellowship and studying His Word.  Then you’ll be able to take over your situation and see the mighty hand of God move in your very midst.

While salvation is free, it didn’t come cheap!  It cost God the very best He had to offer, HIS SON!   Now, Christ is able to bring salvation, deliverance and grace right into your midst, but are you really ready to give Him your undivided attention?  How bad do you really need and want Him to move in your life and circumstances?

Romans 8:31 NIV then says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

If The Holy Spirit of God is engaged to bring us through, which of our enemies can withstand His awesome Word and mighty outstretched hand?   NONE CAN!!!

THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!
